Hair Replacement Wig

Wigs may serve Areata patients in very different ways. Whether as a full wig or as a hairpiece, hair replacement is the alternative for the patient when prescribed therapies have proved to be unsuccessful. The use of hairpieces should be given much consideration in the case of Alopecia Areata.

As you know, the essence of Alopecia Areata is that one or more lesions can develop. Due to the fact that hair parts do not regrow after progressive hair loss, it is likely that the patient would have to somehow adapt to this situation after a short while. The result could be a new hairpiece. Regardless of how full wig is made, whether real or artificial hair is used, whether it is machine-made or hand-made, it is crucial to try and achieve likeness to the patient’s original appearance. Care should be taken to ensure the wig’s naturalness, ease of care, as well as comfort while putting the wig on and wearing it. Whether it is a man, a woman or a child – today it is possible for everyone to look as if you never lost your hair. The new generation of wigs does everything. Customized products are precisely adapted to your own head size. Showers, going to the sauna or simply sleeping with it are now a matter of course.

The durability and wearability of a wig depends on the quality, the wearing habits and hygienic behavior of the patient. Hairpieces

For patients with larger bald spots on the head there is a new kind of hair replacement system consisting of a textile hair carrier. With the aid of cosmetic fixation products, the hairpiece and your own hair are linked together. The attachment is safe, pleasant and not visible. This method can be applied to all alopecia forms when at least 75% of your own hair is found in the attachment area according to the trichogram. The repetition of the attachment use depends on the speed of the hair growth underneath it (usually 4-6 weeks). The costs are covered in Germany in accordance with Directives § 182/1 RVO.

Reimbursement

Currently, all forms of false eyebrows and beards are present on the market, which means they are no longer seen as “disguise” or “camouflage” tools. Wigs are considered to be medical aids in case of Alopecia Areata, and as such they are actually to be reimbursed by the health insurance companies in standard contract versions. Unfortunately, there are a lot of innovations in this area due to the constantly changing legislation. The necessity of buying a wig as a mediсal aid has to be certified each time by a general practitioner (physician), a dermatologist, a gynecologist or neurologist, since these are individual case decisions. For this reason, the grants of the individual health insurance funds are also different. In individual cases, a doctor’s certificate and a cost estimate may not be sufficient. A personal consultation with the responsible person in charge of your health insurance is advisable. Alopecia Areata is not even known to the majority of health insurance companies, which often leads to refusal because a wig is seen only as a cosmetic make-up.
